A Li’l About Tech & Me

The aspect of web development/ tech that excites me the most is its power to greatly enhance your lifestyle and career in numerous ways. From something as simple as playing for favorite music when you wake up to help start your day to life changing technological advances such as AI. A great example of this is the cellphone, first introduced to the public in  the early 1970s as a bulky brick sized item with no internet access and weighing a little over four pounds and only allowing consumers to make untethered long distance calls. Now you are able to find much more lightweight touch screen phones everywhere with various features such as emails, health tracker and even the news from around the world  all in the palm of your hands. With applications that can monitor your heart rate, notes that allow you to store private information, and even access to various social networking websites where you can share your latest art piece or a cute shirt you got last week and finally found pants to match. Improving convenience, communication, and the demand for more skilled workers throughout the world.

Despite its many positive advancements technology can be quite intimidating to the untrained eye. I personally began to lean into the tech field after my twenty-third birthday. I had been working various job since reentering the workforce after the 2020 shutdown and did not like where my life seemed to be heading. Fluctuating schedules, very low wage, un secure housing and to top it off I had no hard skills to make or even create a passive income of any sort. Frustrated with what seemed like I had not accomplished much in my life due to things outside of my control and also things I did have control over, I decided to take control of what I could. Therefore, I created list of my weaknesses (procrastinating, pro-time management) and strengths (great communication skill , quick learner, adaptable) to analyze my strengths and opportunities. Once I completed this analysis, I took free online career test, watched videos on how to choose your career path and did research to find a career that I would be passionate about.

After a month of research, I realized that I not only wanted to be financially stable but also control over my own time. Having the flexibility to make my own hours is a high priority for me to have a good work life balance. Lastly, I want my career to provide continuous life long learning and I believe web development will continue to evolve which will force me to grow as the technology advances. This is why when I came across the diverse landscape of technological careers, such as front-end and back-end developers, software engineers, video game developer and so much more, I was eager to learn more.

With very little understanding of what I was venturing into I started free online courses like Khan Academy to build a bases for my knowledge. During this self assessment process of myself, I decided that no matter what, I will learn and hone my skills in the tech field. I know my main barrier is myself holding me back. As mentioned earlier my weaknesses include strong procrastination and bad time management but I am dedicated to working on these bad habits throughout this course. I will be spending countless hours on web coding and html websites, joining social media platforms for developers, and a true commitment to success. While I don’t know what exact tech job title I will have once I finish the course, my goals will remain true. Make higher income by being employed in the tech industry and one day have a farm.  Overall, by embracing the tools and resources provided by technology in both my professional and personal life will lead to greater success and fulfillment for me.
